The Islamic Banking and Finance Industry has operated under a framework that is, on one hand, risk-averse and, on the other hand, looks to generate returns “at all costs;” hence, why debt-based contracts like hashtag#Murabaha have constituted the most popular financing tool offered by Islamic banks to their customers!
By virtue of the contractual stipulations of Islamic financial institutions (IFI), which at times shift the relevant financial risks to customers whilst securing their gains, some market players have grown skeptical of the underlying motive of IFIs, questioning the extent to which they account for the principles of just and equitable financing as mandated by Shariah.
Where do Shariah experts of the industry, on the national and international level, stand on this conundrum? Are they at ease with the status quo or do they advocate for major reforms to be made to it?? These constitute some of the fundamental questions that this webinar, which will be moderated by Mohamed Sano, Head of Training and Education, seeks to unpack.
Following the notable opening remarks by Founder and CEO of Adl Advisory, Dr Mufti Yousuf Sultan, the field expert here to address these concerns is none other than Deputy Chairman of Shariah Advisory Council to Malaysia’s Central Bank (BNM) and Securities Commission (SC), Prof. engku rabiah adawiah!
Her long-standing technical understanding and wealth of experience on the legal and Shariah aspects of Islamic finance render her selection as speaker on the topic self-explanatory.
